Do you believe in love at first sight? If you do,  is it possible to fall in love with someone in an old photograph?

  1. I do believe in love at first sight, but I’m not sure about the other because seeing a photographic image is different than an actual person.

  2. I didn’t actually mean because of the lifeless still nature of the photograph, but rather becuase it is the 2D representation of a 3D world. Anyway I’m not saying for sure I don’t think it could happen, but rather a big fat ‘I simply don’t know’ and passing the buck.

  3. Um…yes I believe in love at first sight…even though you may not equate it with total love at the time…I believe you can get a certain energy from a person that lights you up and makes you wonder how they are going to fit into your life NOW and FOR THE REST OF TIME! 🙂

Photos…hell yeah! I am looking at the B&W photo of Matthew McConaughey that is taped to my computer at work and I fall in love every 10 seconds!!!! 😉

  4. yep, i do… but is it REALLY the first time you’ve ever “seen” them? or do we fall in love at “first site”, because we know them from another time? another place? another lifetime? huh? i don’t know… i’m just asking back…

  5. One of the reasons I ask is that the New Scientist has an article which suggests that it should be love at first sniff and that we fall for people that our sense of smell tells us are histologically compatable. Like all those articles it is both fascinating and strangely depressing in equal measure.

  6. Love at first sight? Experience tells me no, but I would like to believe in the ‘thunderbolt’ hitting me one day. Although at the same time, I agree with straightsambucca, that it’s more lust at first sight…
Jen, hell yes, Matthew McConaughey… mmmm…. have dragged myself through some terrible films for that man… Mind you I gaze at my pic of Eric Szmadna and have the same reaction!

  7. and i agree with the smell thing. pheromones play an important role in attraction. you can be attracted to someone in a movie or photo, but if your pheremones aren’t compatible in the flesh…..

  8. I’ve heard that too…which I know doesn’t sound very fun, but it explains a few things for me. I remember thinking years ago, how I really wanted to be attracted to someone that I thought was fantastic, but the smell was all off and I didn’t understand it at the time, but I stayed true to my feelings…and my smells. All that uncontrolable farting didn’t help matters, I’m sure.

  9. Interesting. My sense of smell isn’t very good at all – in fact its very lacking…….. and I don’t think I’ve fallen in love at first sight, ever. I’d hardly call that research, though!

  10. When I was in my 20’s I would have answered yes and no respectively. Because my definiton of love has changed so much over the years, I would have to say I believe in lust at first sight not love. And, I think photos can capture the essence of a person for a moment of time and evoke emotions but not true love.
Unless you were already painfully in love with them ( the old photo ) and they dumped you and ripped your heart out … then the photo reminds you how you were once capable of love. *sigh*

  11. Love at first sight? Sure – but its a whole package thing – looks, smell, voice, confidence and the way his eyes darken when they meet yours across the room – a photo doesn’t respond quite the same way.

  12. Bec….yep…terrible films for poor Matthew…but his eyes and body and little Southern accent suit the other things just fine!!! 🙂 By the way…who is this Eric Schooomandzaaaaaaaa dude? I must Google him I suppose! 🙂
Moobs…smell thing is soooooooo true. I can be totally and completely pissed at the hubby…then he’ll get all near me and his scent gets into my nose…and that’s about all there is to say!!! 😉 Damn the good smelling man…
Just returned from camping by the way…and the hubby smells extra delicious…like the ocean and salt and sun and…and…and….GOTTA GO NOW!!! See you all on the blogs tomorrow………………….

  13. Jen – Eric Sczmanda (said Zamanda) is Greg from CSI. I’e had a weird little crush on his since he was in The Net TV Show. Damn, now I want to watch TV goodness 🙂

  14. I can TOTALLY fall for love at first sniff. And what about love at first taste for that matter?! Sweatpantsmom is onto something.
