The Big Moment

I came home to find the girls drawing at the kitchen table. “Have you told them?” I asked P. She hadn’t so I sat down, cleared my throat and began.

“Girls. We have something important to tell you. Do you remember I told you a judge was going to make an order which meant that you could stay with us for ever?”

“Yes?” said Big S.

“Well, he made that order today. We’re a family now and no-one will ever take you away again. Big S, how do you feel about that?”

Big S: “That’s fine. I didn’t want to live with Mary and Joseph because they don’t have loos in the stable and you’d have to go to the loo on the floor”.

Me: “Er … OK. Little S, we’re your Mummy and Daddy now. Are you happy?”

Little S: “What dis called?”

Me: “That’s the front door key sweetheart. I was just asking …”

Little S: “What dis called?”

Me: “That’s the back door key. How do you …”

Little S: “What dis called?”

Me: “That’s the key to my bike lock. Daddy’s going to change out of his suit.”

Still some work to do on the Religious Education front

Walking into town today Big S was keen to show off her knoweldge of matters spiritual.

“Dad, I know who lives in the sky”

“Really? Who is that then?”

“The weather man and the weather woman and the Giant at the top of Jack’s Beanstalk – he hears everything.”

That’s a faith I could get behind.
